Games Stories

In today's blog i will be discussing if games can be art and whats the value in making an art game as opposed to making a game for entertainment purposes.

in the first reading we talk about the hero or heroine of the story and how they progress through the story and who they may or may not meet to shape them into the character that will save the day.
but what really is the use to a story of hero/heroines journey in a game and why is it important?

Firstly it's important because people value myths in society but also people love a good mystery and also like the feel like they can connect with the character and get emotionally involved with her/him, but myths help us teach each other how we should behave towards one another.

the thing is myths are believable, just because you can't see something doesn't make it not real, the bible is a good example of this, not many people have seen god and yet the whole world believes in them. sure lots of suicide bombers would often kill themselves in honor of what they believed to be right in a holy war.

like when people found dangerous animals and knew where they lived so people would tend to avoid them places, but also at the same time tribes in the past would convince someone to kill themselves for the better of the tribe and so myths can be a really powerful tool.

we as humans even though we might not respond right away to some myths our subconscious does respond to it on a whole other level we cant fully comprehend, so when it comes to story telling and myths people will tend to believe what the game is saying to them so in a way the game and myths keep you going through the process of storytelling.

without myths we would be lost in life, how would we function when we dont know what to do, we all in some way are forced to do what people before us have done in there family. customs, church, etc etc that we all have experienced.

so what is a hero/heroine's journey? heroes/heroines venture forth into a mystical and supernatural world where we encounter ways to change how life has treated us and instead play a role where a simple girl from a small country can grab a sword and become the heroine of the world with the click of a button.

the main things that make a hero/heroine what they are consists of the following.

  • Establishing the hero's world
  • The call to adventure
  • Entering the mythological woods
  • Trail of trials
  • Encountering the evil one
  • Gaining the hero's prize
  • Returning that prize to the community
And so if we work do you think everything will turn out ok? or that you might be rewarded? we can only hope for the best but you must at least try. so be careful out there and if you decide to make the journey do your best to come back with a reward or prize that makes others look upto you so you will have a great game and become a hero/heroine!
