Game Fun

muds aka (Multi-User Dimension's) aka was similar to today's MMORPG's(massive multiplayer online role playing game), they mostly consisted of 4 approaches and these were two versions of play which was Action vs Interaction and world oriented vs player oriented  which in today's views would be hack and slash and questing + pve and pvp, generally these types of games are very social.

muds have been around a long time back as far as 1978 game made by trubshaw which would make them over 40 years old.
generally muds need to be "fun" but not the full subject matter, but they were games and people would choose magical names rather than using there own ones.

Muds can be considered games because they fall under what describes a game aka pastime, sport, entertainment and amusement.
but are MUDS actually games? like D&D or pastimes like reading, or sports like hunting, which could be today's FPS (first person shooters) games or entertainment like on tv. but they could be a combination of all 4.

players had heated debates about this in 1989 to 1990 which were highly experienced players who were usually witches or wizards, in the UK a debate was sparked, what do people want out of muds?
players would goto boards saying what they did and didn't like. a lot of wizzes wanted to improve the game, most of the players who contributed to the argument were the wizzes who were the most experienced players, the mud it's self had players doing player killings which caused chaos online.

players eventually ran out of things to say, so eventually a admin was called forward to end this, a lot was put on the table about the topic of "fun" and how to make the game fun for everyone.

even though the MUD allowed player-killing was it still equally social, The changes which affect the player make-up of a MUD is, however, other MUDS had a lot of heavy role playing involved,  people who play MUDS want to learn how to program code.

The 4 things people liked in muds were.

  • Achievement within the game context.
  • Exploration of the game.
  • Socializing with others.
  • Imposition upon others.

player would use tools in the game to help or distress other players, but this usually involves acquiring some weapon and applying it enthusiastically to the persona of another player in the game world.

So are muds games and do they involve the 4 parts of a game aka pastime, sport, entertainment and amusement.
the answer is yes they are.
