Game Design Document

Battle For Celotopia My Dundoc link So for my game design document i used Dundoc, it's a website with templates and such to help you put together a well designed GDD, i used the starter template. In my GDD i talk about a lot of things to do with my game, from how i started to the story and even to the technical specs for the game, i went into some concept art and also added some more information to each character, i found it really hard to use but over time i got used to putting it together, it seems like over time i could make a better more up to date one but some of it was hard to understand so i did what I could, i do hope you enjoy, find the link to my GDD under the above picture. Thanks for reading/viewing my GDD ~Dani~

Unity Tutorial 05

So in the 3 tutorials I learned a lot, in the first I learned how to create several cursors around the main cursor, I also learned how to add in text when I hover over items to tell you both the key to press and take the item, next I learned how to make a script to take the gem and play a sound when I pressed the key I needed, I removed the script to take the gem when I walked into it, and then I added the sound back, so when I press E while looking at the gem it would then take the gem and remove it by setting it to false and plays the sound to take the gem next we added in fences to make it so the world looked more bigger and make them a box collider so u couldn’t walk through them, after that we started to import a weapon of an axe, here we had to move the axe around and set it into place inform of the character, next we had to record an animation for the axe where it would swing forward, then we added in some values over a 30 frames per second to make it so the animation was rec

Games GDD

in todays blog were gonna discuss games to be more specific board games made from ideas and or video games, usualy board games have peices and to really make things work you need to have them smaller than the spaces otherwise they can touch and cause it to be hard to move things around. next try to keep peices different colours to make it alot easier to determine a peice from the board it's self, you also have to take into account some people are colour blind so picking the right colours is vital to a popular game. though even to some extent colours can be not enough so making peices different shapes helps even more so you can fully tell one from the other. this espcialy works well with cards because using similar pictures can make it really hard to tell one from the other espcialy with colour blind people. Monopoly is a great example of good peices, each one is different so you can clearly tell whats what making it so everyone can understand the game, things are named too so

Unity Tutorial 03

This was a lot of fun to make, i really enjoyed it, was interesting to see how the parents and child worked together to create a circle rotation on the Y axis based on the cylinder we created at the start, following the script was a bit tricky but i understood a good but of what was going on however i didn't get it 100% because i only ever studded java and html but never C# To truly understand it i had to go over it a 2nd time and even tho i'm still not 100% i can see why it works, reminds me of a +1 counter in java where you make a while loop and increment it by 1 each time. putting the clock together it's self was also fun, resizing and changing the colours to bring it to life was amazing, i could maybe see myself using something like this for many timed events in my game like maybe even spinning wheels where you have to jump across and make them have holes etc. all and all this was a really fun exercise that i didn't think i would but i genuinely really really en

Games MDA

Image
After having read them all my opinions and thoughts on them are as follows, Game development is based around fun but fun can mean many things so we need to narrow it down more, there are 3 different views in games know as the MDA framework, Mechanics , which is the rules and how a game operatives, how that game is set up, what you do in the game and how it is effected the state of the game it's self, and how to finish each level and the game it's self. Dynamics, based on the rules of the game how the game and players interact with other players. Aesthetics, the players experience of the game and if they find it "fun". all 3 are linked in some way, in each game we try to use many models and not just one big one so players don't feel like they are in a loop or not progressing. games can't just be defined as fun, there is many levels of fun, sensation, fantasy, narrative, challenge, fellowship, discovery, expression, submission. this way we can break away

Feedback Strategies

Try Feedforward Instead of Feedback Feedforward vs feedback http://www.marshallgoldsmith.com/articles/try-feedforward-instead-feedback/ https://4c3d.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/feedbackfeedforward1.png For the first article there was a study based on a thing called "Feedforward" where basically instead of giving feedback on the past you were asked to give feedback on what could happen this was asked for managers to give the workers but also workers to give it back to managers, they were asked to pick a behavior they wanted to change, apply the feedfoward technique, take notes and asks others what they would like to change and to always be positive.   the idea is that giving feedback on past things didn’t help much but giving it during as things are happening started to help workers and managers see where they were going wrong, both found it to not only be useful but really fun to do, this promoted a good working atmosphere where everyone involved had a greater fo

Game Name - Battle for Cleotopia Image of legend of zelda but i hope my game to be somewhat like this https://c1.staticflickr.com/6/5457/8949557139_882b1a98db.jpg So based on my themes I had last week I have decided to choose game 3 which was a 3d game role playing game RPG which is based on a mixture of 2 games, legend of Zelda and world of warcraft but after more thought on it I actually start to think there's a bit of more old school 2d rpg elements too like solving riddles but my game will be more rpg based and I’ll have a good background story and lore, The game will be about adventure where you explore lands and progress through the levels, hop over platforms with fiery lava, find mysteries and treasure chests, solve complex puzzles and fight your way to the end boss and kill them.   For the story I have based it around my personal gaming experience where I’ve gone through many games to get to what I feel would make a good story I have tailored it a bit, so it is mo

Unity Tutorial 02

So for this weeks tutorials i was tasked with making a few things for the game, first up i was asked to  add a sound object into the game, and i was made attach a script to a box collider and then attach that to my character so when i collided with the object it would make a sound and also added into the script to remove the item as if i had collected the item, have yet to put anything extra into the gem like needing it to open a door for instance. make water where i lowered the level of the stage added texture and then put in a asset with a water skin to give it that ripple effect, then i expanded it to fit, we haven't added any game mechanics to it yet(believe me i tested lol) next we added in some walls to make it so the area could have a setting if you liked, i changed how the outside of it looked with skins and then make it metallic and then duplicated it 4 times to give sort of a runway into the mountains, next i added a rock skin to the ground to give the area more of a b

Game Elements

Image
The article by Doug Church starts off with discussing how video games have evolved and how technology has pushed us into an area where problems are a thing of the past and we are only going to keep advancing thanks to technology. in a sense video game making has become a form of art where we put together a lot of elements to make something captivating enough to make video game makers and players all around the world want more but in the end you must direct the player to everything and not just expect them to because if they don’t find these levels then the design of the game is flawed and time is waisted so design plays a big role in developing a game. but to really make a game fun we must understand all about games not just code, we must know what drives players to keep coming back, what makes for good design building and why people really enjoy them. through sharing past games and ideas, we can help build better games from inspiration and we can do this also by just find

Feedback Thoughts

Image
Welcome to my thoughts on feedback and here i will discuss what feedback is and give my ideas. First Article Why it's so hard to hear negative feedback https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/26/smarter-living/why-its-so-hard-to-hear-negative-feedback.html for this article they start off by saying how it can cause you to feel negtive yourself but also cause your to raise your anxiety because nobody likes giving bad news, and nobody likes to hear it either, studies show that over time it can effect your mental health and make you not want to try anymore because but really you should just try to listen instead of trying to focus on it, try working out why and coming up with a way to avoid it happening again. Second Article A Fixed mindset could be holding you back-here's how to change it. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-06-26/fixed-vs-growth-mindset-at-work-and-in-life/9897782 For this article they discuss how your a fixed mindset can be bad and mostly because

Game Brainstorm

Image
Game setting maybe with a story based around it. https://c1.staticflickr.com/8/7358/16407687351_90c60ba279_b.jpg So today were doing brainstorming on 4 game ideas and ill be talking about each of the 4 games i might like to make and the game genres. Game 1 Theme My first game will be a 2d based beat-em up button masher, similar to an oldschool game called double dragon Story The game story will be based around a fantasy world of magic, dragons, fairies, goblins, trolls, elfs and mythical beasts, you are a warrior called Alex and your ordered by the king to find out why the kingdom is in uproar and why there have been so many villages pillaged, so you set out ti find and defeat the evil causing this which is the evil overlord zolador, you must stop them before they can take over and destroy the kingdom, So for me i wish to make it more like an adventure where you not only fight but you solve puzzles, go through mazes and try to find keys to open doors, you will have to eq

Unity Tutorial 01

Image
in the first tutorial i learned how to create and make surfaces and a terian and how to move the camera around, make 3d boxes and spheres, how to move them around etc, i enjoyed making the objects, definaly felt like i was creating something. in the second tutorial i learned how to manipulate the terain even futher not just by height but how to lower it and even make it have more spikes or detailed mountins, next i learned how to move it so i could create paths and even edit the textures, then i learned how to make it look matlatoic and even how to make objects invisable and blend textures on mountins. in the next tutorial i learned how to work with the camera, how to import characters, create trees with detailed grass and how to make a massive forest. then i learned how to use scripts/C# to make a gem rotate and animate i'm starting to get excited for what this game has to show, i love what we done already i love this program and i only hope to keep going with it into the

Game Design

Video games is many things and creating a game is not just coding, there is alot more to it than that, there is many roles from gamers designer, games programmer, games tester, games devloper, sound & music, story devloper, and how to structure the game. When starting you could go for a simile game like a table top making either a 2 or 3d based game where you fight off monsters or open doors, you could even do a shooter like doom, but in honesty you need inspiration and ideas before u can even get to the coding stage, you need to devlop and design levels, devlop characters, and get a base going before u even start coding, try to focus on the gameplay first rather than story or graphics, some of the best games or most popular dont have the best graphics like minecraft or flappy duck, so get the game working, then you can get better graphics etc. make sure you test the game well before even letting anyone else play, once you feel it's working well have others test it out and
